the free metaphysical wiki anyone can edit

About the Name

MetaWiki is an English based, web-based, free metaphysical content encyclopedia project. The name MetaWiki is a portmanteau of the words metaphysical and wiki (a type of collaborative website). MetaWiki's articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information.

Editing & Contributions

MetaWiki is written collaboratively by volunteers from all over. Visitors do not need specialized qualifications to contribute, since their primary role is to write articles that cover existing knowledge; this means that people of all ages and cultural and social backgrounds can write MetaWiki articles. With rare exceptions, articles can be edited by anyone with access to the Internet, and a free QP community account simply by clicking the edit this page link. Any member is welcome to add information, cross-references or citations, as long as they do so within MetaWiki 's editing policies and to an appropriate standard. For example, if you add information to an article, be sure to include your references, as unreferenced facts are subject to removal.

There is no need to worry about accidentally damaging MetaWiki when adding or improving information, as other editors are always around to advise or correct obvious errors, and MetaWiki 's software, known as MediaWiki, is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.

To create a page simply type in the proper prefix for your new article followed by the title you wish for the new article.

  • General articles do not require a prefix
  • New categories should start with the prefix Category: followed by the title of the category (example: Category:Category name)
  • Dictionary type definitions start with the prefix Dictionary: (example: Dictionary:Word)
  • To create a user article about yourself use the prefix User: and then your username (example: User:Username)
  • The prefix Help: and MetaWiki: are reserved for help and technical pages only

An Ongoing Project

Because MetaWiki is an ongoing work to which, in principle, any member can contribute, it differs from a paper-based reference source in important ways. In particular, older articles tend to be more comprehensive and balanced, while newer articles more frequently contain significant misinformation, unencyclopedic content, or vandalism. Users need to be aware of this to obtain valid information and avoid misinformation that has been recently added and not yet. However, unlike a paper reference source, MetaWiki is continually updated, with the creation or updating of articles on topical events within seconds, minutes or hours, rather than months or years for printed metaphysical related resources.
